Introduction to High School Literature & Composition (9th Grade +)
Course Duration: 28 weeks; Thursdays, 10:45-12

Students will be introduced to classic and contemporary literature and learn writing skills that will assist them in academic writing throughout their high school journey. Students will discover strong study skills, how to transform written narration into organized writing for essays, research papers, and creative writing, explore and memorize poetry, enjoy vocabulary expansion, book discussion, and earn an introduction to annotation in this course that welcomes them to the Upper School!
American Literature & Composition (10th Grade +)
Course Duration: 28 weeks; Thursdays, 9:15-10:30
Course Fee: $425
This course leads students in the discovery of great American writers and thinkers in our country’s history. Students will read notable literary works across the span of America’s history, from the time of the settlers to the present day. Weekly reading assignments and classroom discussions will be supplemented with vocabulary exercises, individual and collaborative research, writing projects, presentations, and opportunities to write poetry, fiction, and non-fiction. Students will keep a commonplace journal for ideas and thoughts in addition to more formal writing.
World Literature & Composition (11th Grade + )
Course Duration: 28 weeks; Thursdays, 10:45-12
Course Fee: $425
World Literature & Composition focuses on the study of a selection of literature from around the globe with special emphasis on cultural influences and distinct worldviews. Reading materials will include fiction, non-fiction, short stories, poetry, and drama. With a goal to attain strong writing skills and a deeper love of literature, students will build upon previous experience through composing formal essays, poetry, and inventive prose. Grammar, mechanics, usage, and vocabulary will be covered mostly within the context of literature and writing.

Teachers meet students where they are as they begin their high school path in Intro to High School Lit/Comp, and grow through exploration of literary classics in American Lit/Comp, experience some of the greatest works ever written in British Lit/Comp, or discover timeless works from cultures across the globe in World Lit/Comp.
